An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is a lay person, typically a Catholic, who is authorized by a bishop or priest to distribute the Eucharist (Holy Communion) during Mass or to bring it to the sick and homebound.
They are called "extraordinary" because their role is not part of the normal, or "ordinary," ministry of the Church, which is reserved for ordained ministers (priests and deacons). The term "extraordinary" is used to distinguish them from the ordinary ministers of Holy Communion, not to imply any special status or privilege.
EMHCs play a vital role in many parishes, especially during busy Masses or when there are many people who cannot receive Communion from the priest or deacon. They are also essential for bringing Communion to the sick and homebound, who may not be able to attend Mass.
We are proud to Announce our new three EXTRA ordinary Ministers who were instated on 19th Jan 2025 in the presence of the congregation under the leadership of Rev Fr Alphose Bhaskar & Rev Fr Balaraju for the first time in the history of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Mr. Francis Victor
Mr. Donald Dias
Mrs. Jayamary
We wish their mission, dedication and abundance of to bring and heal many souls for the kingdom of God Almigty.
